Peter,
an Australian citizen age 34, joins thousands of other
professionals (and company managers like himself) who have decided to make a new life for themselves in
Thailand teaching English. After considering the various teacher
training courses that were available, Peter realized that he would need
to learn how to teach effectively to Thais and other Asian learners
instead of just teaching in a generic matter to all nationalities.
Ultimately, therefore, Peter decided to do our own TEFL for
Target Learner Groups Course at
TEXT-AND-TALK Academy in
Phuket. (We suspect the lovely beaches of Phuket may have been one of
the deciding factors in choosing a training location, however!)
From
among numerous job opportunities available, Peter was offered and has accepted an
excellent position with the world-renowned Berlitz School of Languages.
Most remarkably, so impressed was Berlitz with Peter's attitude and the
type of course he was taking, that he was promised a starting position
even before he had finished training!
Peter
commences right away, and commands a starting salary of 40,000 baht a
month, plus benefits. Not a record, but hardly a bad beginning for a
new teacher graduate!
Peter
credits his trainer, Mr Robert Brooks, for his rapid progress, and is
deeply appreciative of Bob's after-hours assistance of any trainee who
might have needed just a bit of extra work. He also thoroughly enjoyed
his practice teaching sessions, which built the confidence in himself
to work successfully as a full-time EFL teacher, anywhere, anytime.
