My Funniest Story - while Teaching English

My funniest story?
Well that’s a tough one! Of course, it has all been a rollercoaster of fun.

The experience that first comes to my mind happened just a few weeks ago. I was teaching a bunch of nine- ten year olds how to use comparatives and superlatives. The class was going well. Everyone, but Somsak, picked it up quite quickly and demonstrated one by one and in pairs in front of the class what they had learned.

Somsak was born with dynamite in his behind and spends most of every class rolling around on the floor or walking around in class doing all the things he is not to do. In other words he is one of those students who make you wonder to why it isn’t allowed to simply kill them.

Normally, it is impossible to make Somsak come in front of class to demonstrate what he has learned, but not on this particular day. He walked up to the board, pointed at himself and said with a loud clear voice:

I am a fool.
Somchai is a bigger fool than I am,
but he is not as big a fool as Somlee is,
and teacher Clyde is the biggest fool of us all.

Perhaps it is not all that much fun when the kid is crawling around on the floor and won’t get up, but it is a great pleasure when you are rewarded with a performance like the one Somsak gave.
