has over 20 years of English teaching experience!

They love their teacher, David!

SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE:

What makes an experienced and successful EFL and ESL teacher suited for the important job of training other highly skilled teachers through our training course? Basically, it comes down to caring deeply about one's students and associates; extensive experience; and the ability to function well and successfully in a considerable variety of teaching and administrative situations. Such a man is Mr David Solomon, an Australian native presently employed by TEXT-AND-TALK Academy, Thailand as the Pattaya TEFL for Target Learner Groups Course Trainer, whose thoughtful and effective training methods have endeared him not only to us and his teacher trainee graduates, but also to the schools who employ these well-qualified people.

David is highly qualified for the position, holding a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Sociology and minors in Psychology, Administration and Consumer Affairs, and, through the University of Southern Queensland, a Graduate Diploma in Education and a Masters of Education Degree in Special Education. David brings more than two decades of valuable English (and other subject) teaching experience to the present task. He is currently undertaking a Doctor of Education Degree specialising in Leadership and Management through the University of Queensland, and has written a book on The Effective Learning and Teaching of Children, which awaits publication.

He previously was a greatly-prized head teacher and supervisor for the teaching of adults and children in
Thailand, and is still involved in that area. Prior to that, David was Principal at Bauhinia State School with the Education Department in Queensland, Australia.

David additionally taught at Dingo, Gumlu and
Bluewater State Schools where he was Acting Principal and completed short-term contracts at Mabel Park, Eagleby South and Marsden State Schools, teaching all-year levels.

He has been involved in the development and implementation of Whole School Literacy Plans and Outcomes Based Curriculum for the new Science, SOSE and H&PE Syllabus at
Bauhinia State School, as well being a member of the Performance Facilitation team for Education, Queensland. David likewise was a member of a number of committees at Bluewater State School, including the Social Justice Committee and the Behaviour Management Committee, and taught year-5 students at the South Queensland International College where he was involved in both extra and co-curricula activities at that school.

Part of his prior experience includes extensive study of approaches for working with students with behavioural difficulties. Some of these approaches (in line with the relevant schools' behavioural management policies) were the withdrawal of the student from classroom activities; implementation of a reward system for students who exhibited the desired behaviours; and systems of positive and negative reinforcement. Other students within the classroom were encouraged to ignore the relevant students' inappropriate behaviours. (Not necessarily relevant to our own TEFL course trainees, to be sure!)

David assisted as a voluntary tutor at Beaudesert High School, working with the Learning Enrichment and Needs Support group, tutoring students both in-class and in one-on-one situations in the areas of mathematics and English. He has tutored students with both behavioural and learning difficulties from years 8 - 11, as well as assisted in year 10 to provide students with the relevant social skills to prepare and write résumés and undertake job interviews.

David has regularly provided on-the-job training and undertaken monitoring programs in order to evaluate the effectiveness of tasks being undertaken (including the practice teaching sessions of our own course, prior to his becoming trainer), and previously developed and provided day-to-day training programs for the Air Surveillance Unit at RAAF Darwin and the Logan Institute of TAFE, where he was employed as a casual teacher presenting Study Skills courses for Adult and Community Education.

As an Instructor with the Northern Territory Air Training Corps, David gained valuable experience in the development and presentation of instructional technique training programs for both junior and senior NCO courses, as well as lecturing on a variety of other subjects.

The list of achievements goes on and on! Such has been the invaluable experience that David brings to us as our TEFL course trainer in Pattaya.

These are the reasons Mr David Solomon has been selected Trainer of the Month!
